One enters O-Project along Wabash, where the roof meets the ground level. Residents have the option to walk right onto the rooftop where they are presented with a green roof walkway and a great view of the entire complex. This promotes a strong sense of community where residents are able to freely move around and interact with one another. One can also choose to continue along a path that cuts through the central garden and leads to a large green space and public park behind the complex. The surrounding neighbourhood is very lively, surrounded by several shops, restaurants and commercial facilities. It is also very family oriented, which deems O-Project’s goals of community living and circulation very appropriate.

Sustainable Strategies for O-Project include geothermal heating which will account for 40 to 50% of the energy used in the complex. In addition, greywater harvesting will be utilized through the collection of rain water for use in the communal garden and homes. The building will be constructed with insulated form concrete, which is very practical for Toronto’s cold climate. The roof will be a grass insultating roof and double paned Aargon filled windows will be employed. (Click on the image for further details on each sustainable strategy).
